Here in Southern NM, it’s starting to cool down. I think it was about 68 last night, but it was still in the high 80s all day.
I’m ready for it to be fall. Every year when school starts, it feels like it should be sweater weather already. Growing up in Iowa, we’d have to wait a few weeks for REAL fall weather, but by the time mid-September rolled around, it was usually sweater-weather in the evenings. And then living in the Northeast NY, MD, same thing, except fall lasted a LOT longer and the winters were milder.
Here in the waaaaaaay Southwest, though…we have LooooooooOOOooOooong summers. I LOVE the sunshine, and I really do even enjoy the heat. For about 3-4 months…and now I’m ready for it to cool the f*** down already! I’m getting BIG, I’m walking funny (the waddle) and I’m TOO HOT.
In preparation for cooler weather, I started working on this shrug-sweater-thing out of some gorgeous Neighborhood Fiber Co. Merino. It’s gonna have long sleeves, super-extendo-ribbing, and actually close in the front. This is what I work on at SnB on Wednesdays, so I get a few inches done every week. My rate of project-completion has gone waaaaaaay down since this pregnancy has set in. I’m so tired. In a good way, but tired.
The ultrasound yesterday was really neat.
This clinic we went to has a much more high-tech machine than they do at our reglar clinic. (This was a level-2 ultrasound that they do on high-risk people.) We saw her little arms and legs, hands and feet, head, heart, stomach, kidneys, brain, ribs, spine…everything.
She was wiggling around and moving her legs and arms a LOT. When we first saw her, she was lying with her arms in the same position that I was lying in on the table!
Both the technician and the attending physician remarked on how much she was moving and called her a “wiggle worm.” (And said again that all that movement is great to see and is a great sign.)
She just woke up and I can feel her moving around now, too. She’s not doing the big Karate (or Kar-a-tay) kicks yet, but I can feel her moving and dancing around. So, we got some of the ultrasound photos, and I put them in her scrapbook…but except for the first one, they’re kind of a mystery. The one that says “face” is the one that I’m particularly ignoring.
It’s really cute to compare the first batch where she was like a gummi bear with a tail to the second batch where we can see her long legs and even a foot! She’s sure growing and I’m so relieved to have gotten to see her and know that she’s doing well.
We go back in 4 weeks for another of these, because her position in my belly was such that they weren’t able to see the outflow “tubes,” for lack of better word, from her heart well enough. Her back was facing forward, head down. So we’ll see her again soon!
(I’ll add pics today, but wanted to post the update to the quickie from yesterday!)

I love the fall too! I live in the little state of Connecticut and I love when fall comes. It is so beautiful when the leaves change color. I hate hot weather too, and I can’t wait until it cools down enough so I can wear my sweaters.
I am so happy you are having a baby girl!! She will be as beautiful as you are
Congrats! You guys must be so relieved and happy that she’s perfectly formed…I know I was when we had dudley’s 20 week ultrasound. It’s still hot in Tokyo but cooling down a little at night. I’m so ready for cooler weather. I’m seriously waddling now - a baby head engaged in your pelvis is not the most comfortable thing in the world!!! Ha!
So glad to hear that everything went well! Only 7 more weeks until my next ultrasound…
And it’s definitely not fall here yet in DC… it’s still hot and humid.
It’s starting to cool down a bit in VA - nights in the 60s…. end of this week the high will be in the low 80’s. Finally! I’m hot, and waddling, too, and I just want to bundle up in big clothes that make me feel less like a whale!
We got 2 ultrasounds in 2 weeks on our little boy - because he was turned and not showing them everything they needed to see - like his face and his heart. When we went back this past Wednesday, he gave them a really good show of everything they needed, and more! I love watching the wiggling, especially when you can feel it when you’re watching it!
Congratulations again! I’m so excited for you!!!!
I know how you feel about fall; I lived in Florida for 5 years & I mourned the changing seasons… I’m so glad I’m back in Michigan; although we’re actually having a warm September so far. Good luck with the waddling; by the time I got pregnant with #3 I was only 5 weeks in when I started… lol.
Sidenote: After visiting your book for months at the bookstore, I finally got to bring it home today! I’m so excited to start something; I’m leaning towards the cover sweater, but I may opt for the bulky mini-cardi instead…
Oh My Dear,

in Germany there is the whole summer a fall this year….if I would be pregnant I would be happy, yes, but I AM NOT pregnant(thank God, I have already THREE) and I want summer RIGHT NOW
Congrats to your nice Baby Girrrrl
She will be very cool in her coloured Baby Bumpers and knitted clothes, so sweet.
Greets, Eva
Oh such great news! And little girls are SUCH fun!!! Congrats!
It’s so sweet to hear/read you referring to the baby as “her!” Congratulations on a nerves-soothing ultrasound and on your little girl. Oh my goodness, think of the knitting for a little girl!!
I’m ready for fall too! I live in SE Oklahoma and it was 89 and rainy all day today, like breathing hot water. I finished the Neo Matrix sweater for my 12 year old son this morning and he insisted on wearing it most of the day. because he loooves it. I kept saying “isn’t it a little hot to wear that?” I just can’t wait for it to cool off enough for me to wear my SKB I finished a few weeks ago.
Congrats on the good news about your baby girl. ultrasound pics sure have come a long way since I had my kids. The 3D ones are amazing.
P.S.
Saturday I put on my Drop Stitch Lace Top when I went to “Open-Door-Day” at http://www.wolleunddesign.de/ (Big Rowan Store in Germany) and one of the shop assistant asked me for it
I told her about your “Fitted Knits” - she was very interested….

I empathise. The night before I gave birth to my first, it was 43 degrees celsius here in Melbourne (about 110!!!), Revel in every moment of your pregnancy and dooo look after yourself. Rest now because you’ll need it later (which is why I’m not going to hassle you at all for the pattern for the tan sweater. No, really;-))
Fall is easing it’s way into our weather here. We rode the train in Cripple Creek over the weekend and the leaves up there are changing. Here we’ve had one frost and the mornings are brisk.
Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy, it’s much more comfortable once the weather outside gets cooler!
congratulations! a lil GIRL… i was surprised during our ultrasound when the technician kinda… HIT my belly w/the viewfinder (or whatever that thing might be called)… she hit it a few times trying to move the baby and get the pictures they needed… i almost hit her back… hahah…
it’s all just so amazing… (i’ve got 6 weeks to go) and i wish you well!
