Two Tshirt Yarn shrugs, a WIP and a Mazie update « »

Here are two new Tshirt yarn shrugs that my mother knit up:

Thsirt yarn shrugs

She dyed her tees with tea, and I think that the colors she got are just fantastic:

Thsirt yarn shrug

Very subtle, but very nice.

Here’s a link to the pattern, and one to the class.

WIP update: I’ve been working on a sweater for myself, and even though I have been knitting top down raglan sweaters for literally decades, I still place the whole thing on waste yarn

Putting the sweater on waste yarn so that I can try it on

So that I can try it on:

Trying on as I go!

I want to add a drawstring detail to the underbust / overbelly so I have to make sure that it will hit at exactly the right depth in the bodice. I still have a few inches to go!

Mazie update: it was (is) just a head cold. AND…while we were in the office, our Nurse Practitioner got in a shipment of H1N1 vaccines, so we were able to get one for Mazie.

I have received a lot of comments, by personal email, on Facebook, and Twitter, from people telling me NOT to vaccinate our daughter. I think that parenting is such a personal thing, I’d never deem myself expert enough to advise others on what to do for their children, especially in a situation like this. Living so close to Mexico, where the virus originated, and having such a high number of local cases (800 in the next county over, and 50 here locally) and numerous deaths, we have decided to protect ourselves and Mazie.

If you have chosen not to vaccinate yourself or your child, that is your decision, and I’m sure that it was based on hours (or more) of long hard thought and is a decision based on what you think is best and safest for your family. Our decision is, too. Please do not comment / write telling me that I’ve endangered my child or my fetus by vaccinating Mazie and myself.

I would never write to you criminalizing your decision not to vaccinate.

For those of you who have been supportive through this whole thing (here and on Twitter / Facebook… I APPRECIATE YOU!

    The sweater is very cute!

Also, good for you re: your comments regarding vaccination. I actually dragged myself off my lazy butt to register (finally) to leave you a comment supporting your right to make your own decision regarding your child’s health and your own.

I think that part of the problem may be (and I’ve been watching my increasingly famous husband have this issue too) is that you have a public persona, and people have a hard time remembering the PERSON part of persona…

Lots of blessings to your and your family!

And in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I’m very thankful to be able to read your blog.

My gorgeous boy was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of two. He is now three and had his first of two H1N1 shots today. I am based in England and on balance and after much thought did not want to risk his blood sugar going throught he roof if he gets a fever or flu. Parenting is all about making as informed a decison as you can. I admire your strength and can’t believe you have even had to defend your decision. This is my first comment even though I have lurked for over a year as it was Fitted Knits that got me knitting again during hospital stays and doctors appointments over the past 14 months .

Yours and your mom’s sweaters are wonderful! I love the tea dying and will definitely try it out one of these days.

As for vaccines, my family members have all received the regular flu vaccine - for my daughter, it’s madatory that children in daycare receive them annually. And both kids have received the “normal” vaccines since they were born. Yet, even though I am the highest risk of all of us, commuting to NYC every day, none of us have gotten the h1n1 shot mainly due to the availability/accessability of it. Unfortunately, my closest co-worker is believed to have it…and several other office mates have called out sick - but for now (knock on wood - knitting needles count!) I’m still standing, taking my zyrtec-d, vitamins, and extra vitamin-c (not to mention spraying all desk/work areas with lysol when i get in every morning).

The short of all this is that you and Mazie have a higher risk because of the pregnancy and her age. You are an amazingly smart woman and no one should doubt your decisions on anything, especially this, ever.

    Happy and healthy knitting!

I’m so glad that Mazie’s cold wasn’t H1N1. It’s so hard on parents when their kids are sick. As parents we must do whatever we feel is the right path to keeping our little ones sick. Sometimes is goes against what others think. It’s YOUR family and you must do what YOU feel is right!!!! I’m glad the vaccination became available just when you needed it most.

I’ve been reading your blog for a while, but never found the time to register until now. I’m pregnant and was vaccinated against the H1N1. It was scary for me, but DH works in a hospital and everybody was getting sick. I honestly feel safer now. Anyway, I just wanted to show my support for your decision, Stay healthy!

Wow, I really wasn’t all there when I typed my previous response. I MEANT to say, As parents we must do whatever we feel is the right path to keeping our little ones from getting sick. What I typed really came out wrong!!!!

I think vaccinating is so important. I think that by keeping our children save we are also keeping others safe. Because so many have chosen to not vaccinate their children diseases that had been gone are now coming back. I am happy to hear that Mazie is getting better and that you are both protected. Best you and your family.
